Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is the team’s 2007 Walter Payton Man of the Year. Ward will now compete with one nominee from every team in the league for Man of the Year in the NFL. Jerome Bettis won the award when he played for the Steelers. The Walter Payton award is given to players for their community involvement, charitable work and success on the field. Ward’s “Hines Ward Helping Hands Foundation” assists biracial youths who face discrimination in South Korea.
