The Steelers will begin contract extension negotiations this week with the agent for quarterback Ben Roethlisbeger, according to the “Pittsburgh Post Gazette”.  Roethlisberger has two-years remaining on his current deal, but both sides are interested in getting an extension down now for the Pro-Bowler.  The “Post Gazette” is also reporting that the Steelers will make one last call to the agent for Pro-Bowl guard Alan Faneca.

Faneca is an unrestricted free agent who could not come to terms with the club on a new deal last off-season.  The “Post Gazette” is reporting that the Steelers will make a pitch for offensive tackle Max Starks, but they expect him to leave.  Starks is an unrestricted free agent.  The Steelers other unrestricted free-agents are linebackers Clark Haggans and Marquis Cooper, defensive ends Travis Kirschke and Nick Eason, fullback Dan Kreider, quarterback Brian St. Pierre, and running back Verron Haynes.
