Well as you may or may not know, Tony Hills, 4th round pick, OT, has signed and is ready to rock with the Steelers…Thats good news for all the yinzers concerned about our offensive line. But guess what people, we may think we know more than the coaching staff while we are atop our barstools, but Tomlin and the Rooney’s have a pretty good track record, so lets just trust them shall we?
Tony Hills isn’t the primary reason for this article, but I thought I’d mention it anyway. The reason for the article is a recent ESPN article penned by Bill Williamson on Instant Impact for current rookies. Bill talks breifly about Rashard Mendenhall by saying this:
Rashard Mendenhall
Mendenhall is a perfect fit for the Steelers. With Willie Parker returning from a broken right fibula, the Steelers have a potentially great 1-2 punch with these two running backs. Mendenhall was expected to go much earlier in the first round, and the Steelers were thrilled to get him at No. 23. With McFadden and Fargas sharing the load in Oakland, and with Carolina’s Jonathan Stewart coming off a toe injury, Mendenhall has a chance to be the leading rusher among all rookies. The Steelers have to be considered a contender in the AFC, and Mendenhall makes them better.
Pretty good stuff that we all should be excited about! Also, we are the only team to have 2 rookie mentions, the other was obviously Limas Sweed (Deep Country). He was an “Honorable Mention”
Something about Limas by the way, he is being tutored by arguably the best WR coach in the NFL…Hines Ward! How would you like to learn from the All-Time great if you were a wideout? Limas will take full advantage, like Santonio (amazing) and Plax, and a cast of pretty good backups in Dallas Baker and Nate Washington.
We should feel pretty lucky as Steeler fans that we have so many weapons like Parker, Mendenhall, Ward, Sweed, Holmes, Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth!
With our defense always stellar and our offense led by Ben, we should be in pretty good shape this year, but ask me during that last game of the year against the Browns. If we are still playing Ben to win, it might be a nail biter!
Thanks for listening to me vent!
