Bailey Named Steelers Rookie of the Year; Clark Wins Chief Award

With an injury to first-round pick Rashard Mendenhall and not much from second-round pick WR Limas Sweed, the Steelers today named linebacker Patrick Bailey, an undrafted player from Duke who was released twice by the Steelers this year, as their rookie of the year.

Bailey was released before the start of the season on August 30th, and signed to the practice squad the next day. He signed to the 53-man roster September 20th but was released on October 4th. He rejoined the 53-man roster October 25th and has been active since, playing well on the special teams.

Veteran safety Ryan Clark earned The Chief award, which goes to the player who most exemplified the spirit of cooperation with the local news media and is named after franchise founder Art Rooney.

Both awards were selected by members of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Pro Football Writers.
