Signing WR Lelie Probably Won’t Happen After Drafting Wallace

We reported back on April 28th about the Steelers chatting with veteran wide receiver Ashley Lelie. Funny thing happened though – the Steelers landed wide out Mike Wallace in the third round of the draft. John Clayton of ESPN reported that the team may just shun Lelie because of the signing of Wallace, who could fill that void in the offense. Here’s the story:

The Steelers had a visit from wide receiver Ashley Lelie, but they may not sign him. They scheduled his visit last Saturday, not figuring they would be able to get Mississippi receiver Mike Wallace in the third round. Wallace is a speedy split end who can be groomed to replace Nate Washington, who went to Tennessee in free agency. Lelie was under consideration for that role, but the Steelers may have filled it.
