RB Redman Added to the Active Roster; Eason Dumped
Posted by Matt Loede on October 3rd, 2009 in Injuries, Roster Moves
The Steelers need a running back for tomorrow’s game vs the Chargers as it seems with Willie Parker out with a turf toe injury, the team is going to turn to training camp sensation Isaac Redman. The team Saturday dumped defensive end Nick Eason, and activated Redman to the active roster from the practice squad.
Redman took some first-team reps on goal-line drills Saturday and could get some carries in place of Parker, who is doubtful to play against the Chargers. The release of Eason opens up the possibility that the Steelers will add defensive lineman Sonny Harris in some capacity.

It appears that Parker will not play (turf toe) on Sunday, and Mendenhall will take his place, backed up by M. Moore. Mendy is a natural broken field runner; while not as fast as Parker, he performs best outside the tackles and is an adequate RB. By contrast, Redman performed well between the tackles in preseason against second stringers. Now we’ll see if he can run against the first string defense of S. Diego. I don’t think Redman is the answer to the Steelers’ need for a power back in short yardage and goal line situations; but he seems a better choice in this role than Mendy. Let’s hope he gets the chance to show what he can do.

I am looking forward to Redman getting some chances tonight! Who knows, Barry Foster was a surprise back in 1991-92. Maybe Redman makes something happen on the ground. Can’t hurt, right? If Mendy has a good night, the Steelers will win this game.
