Ryan should work out a deal with Troy. Troy sits out this week to heal, and in exchange, Ryan sits out Nov. 9th against Denver. It almost killed him last time he played there. As a parent with twin sons who also have sickle cell trait, I really hope Ryan takes himself out of that game.

Usually against a struggling team like the Lions, the Steelers would wait another week and go out and beat them without Troy. I really cannot imagine Troy playing this week unless the staff is certain he is 90-100%. I am a doubter that this is the case. With games against the Lions, Browns coming up I would think 2 more weeks of rest is the smart thing. Then you can have Troy back for Favre and the Vikings and then the bye week. Should the Steelers find themselves 4-2 before the Vikings, I wouldnt be surprised to see Troy after the bye.

Its hard as a fan to say keep Troy benched. Personally I would dress him and see how he feels making cuts on the field. If hes not the usual Troy, sit him and let the rest of the D make up for his absence.

Polamalu is a fierce competitor and no doubt wants to play, but Ryan Clark is both a good friend and a prudent voice in advising him to wait. Troy will be needed far more later in the season, and ligament tears take a long time to fully heal. Tomlin has the smarts to do the cost-benefit analysis and will keep Polamalu sidelined for another week or two for the good of the player and the team.
