Ward Wins the Offensive Side of “Dirtiest Player in the NFL”

We all know that Hines Ward is a tremendous blocker, and yes, he’s knocked some players out over the years (Earl Little and Keith Rivers come to mind), but would you call him “dirty”? That’s the results of a poll on Sports Illustrated, that called Ward and the Skins Albert Haynesworth as the two dirtiest players in the game.
Here’s the tidbit from PFT:
A Sports Illustrated poll of NFL players has found that Hines Ward is considered by his colleagues to be the dirtiest player in the league, with Albert Haynesworth and Joey Porter tied for second.
The question, “Who is the dirtiest player in the league?” was asked of 296 players during training camp this summer, and Ward, the Steelers’ wide receiver, got 11.6 percent of the vote, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Haynesworth, the Redskins defensive tackle who as a Tennessee Titan in 2006 received a five-game suspension for stepping on the helmetless head of Cowboys center Andre Gurode, got 6 percent of the vote. Porter, the Dolphins’ linebacker, also got 6 percent.
Rounding out the Top 5 (or should it be Bottom 5?) are Bengals safety Roy Williams, who got 5.1 percent of the vote, and Titans center Kevin Mawae, with 4.6% percent.

I wonder what percentage of defensive players voted for Ward? Especially d-backs and linebackers. I can’t believe offensive players would vote for a fellow offensive mate. The only choice was Ward!!! Love it!!!! Keep laying them out 86!!!!

This is SO absurd! Hines Ward is one of the FEW wide receivers who actually PLAY the game the way it’s supposed to be played! Hell, if Ward WANTED to do a dirty hit he would have hit Rivers in the knee’s but even Ward HIMSELF has said that he would NEVER make a hit like that which could end a player’s career.

This is just a reminder of how the NFL has made playing the game the right way a “bad thing”. If they are polling players about who is dirty and Ward is mentioned as being as such, the NFL is getting what they want. QB’s are overly protected, but”playing within the rules players” like Ward are going to be scrutinized until the NFL uses this information to change the rules again. It might as well be “flag football”. Lets condone drug use, animal cruelty,woman/wife abuse,pain-in-the-ass players (T.O,L.J,B.M), but lets punish clean players with fines even when they do NOT get flagged on particular plays. BAD sign of things to come from the NFL.
