Roethlisberger Called An Idiot By Rooney’s Grandson

Just saw this tidbit today about the grandson of Art Rooney calling Ben Roethlisberger an “idiot” this past week, and figured it would be good for a chuckle for our readers:

The grandson of Steelers original owner Art Rooney called suspended QB Ben Roethlisberger “an idiot” this week. Tom Rooney, a Republican congressman from Florida, was asked about the Steelers by Sunshine State News and his response: “The Steelers, I have no choice. But … our quarterback is still an idiot.” Steelers president Art Rooney II and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell expressed disappointment with Roethlisberger, but the Steelers said they’re willing to give the two-time Super Bowl winner a chance to rebuild his reputation and career.

Matt Loede has been in the sports media for over 16 years, with experience covering the MLB, NBA, and NFL. On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Matt studies and talks football inside and out, and is anxious to share his thoughts and comments with readers on a daily basis.

Tom Rooney is a master of the obvious, but he speaks the truth.
It’s just ashame that an idiot like Ben has done so much damage to the reputation of the Steelers in cities around the league.
It’s a shame that an organization with a stellar reputation has had it sullied to the point that fans in cities like Oakland, Baltimore and Cincinatti can mock Pittsburgh as a haven for criminals.
They need to rid themselves of that moron and try to repair the damage that he has caused to their reputation.

I was born & raised in Pittsburgh, and have been a big fan of the Steelers since forever. Where there is smoke, most likely there is fire is a phrase I believe. I think Ben should be traded and/or let go. Just having him on the team is a big distraction we don’t need. He is a moron, and a total ass. The reputation of the Steelers, and the city of Pittsburgh is more important.

Although I also agree with the “if there is smoke there is fire” adage, I also believe in giving Ben a chance to redeem himself to the team and its fans. Ben should have many good/productive years left as a QB, and if he were to be that QB as well as a model citizen, then this entire escapade could be somewhat “overlooked” in the end. I am not saying that it should be ignored, but he still has a chance to put it all behind him and make good as a player and in life. From a football standpoint, if Ben were to have a poor season, then the team could use that and his past off the field problems as the reason they let him go. As of right now though, he is one of the best QB in the game and he is ours! I say, lets see what the up coming season shows, and lets see if he can take all the right steps both on and off the field.
