Woodley Signs Steelers’ Franchise Offer

OLB LaMarr Woodley inked his franchise tender today with the Steelers according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. While it’s not yet known as to the amount of the raise he will get due to the price of the tag, Woodley could get a raise of approximately $10.2 million in 2011 compared to what he made in 2010 which was $550,000.

While this is all going on, the Steelers and Woodley will keep talking, and the sides will start to work out a deal that will have him inked long-term. As is pointed out, due to the fact that Woodley is a former second-round pick who didn’t make a large salary, neither side could do much because of the 30-percent rule under the current collective bargaining agreement. A new CBA will provide an opportunity for both sides to resume negotiations.

With the way the Steelers do business, you can expect a deal to get done sooner rather than later. Woodley wants to be a Steeler, and it’s where he can continue to make his mark as one of the best young linebackers in the league.

Woodley’s worth every penny of the money the Steelers are paying him. He has a chance to be their next hall-of-fame linebacker.

Sign him long term, and start training either Worilds, or Sylvester to replace Silverback and the Steelers will be set at outside linebacker for the next 10 years.
