First Quarters Thoughts – Slow Start Followed by Much Needed Offense

Ben Roethlisberger greets Troy Polamalu

The defense got off to what appeared to be its usual slow start, as the team allowed the Titans to go down the field, but then thanks to a sack by LaMarr Woodley, it stopped a drive and eventually forced the Titans to kick a field goal. Kudos to the D to stuffing the Titans once they got close. It was a good sign, and it motivated the offense.

Antonio Brown, who had a TD on a kick return last year against the Titans, made it a 50-yard field for the offense, and they took advantage of it. A very smart challenge by Mike Tomlin, and it paid off with a third-down catch by Mike Wallace that kept the drive going. It ended with a Heath Miller TD, and it looked like Ben was moving Ok.

The D stepped up and stopped the Titans on the next drive, as Troy Polamalu almost had a pick on third down. 7-3 after one – and things are so far so good.
