Agent For Colon Says Steelers Will Keep Him For 2013

Joe Linta, the agent for left guard Willie Colon, says the Steelers have told him they currently plan to do nothing with his contract at the moment and they have not asked for a reduction, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Colon is due a salary of $5.5 million this year.

Im fine with the decision to keep him but i do believe he’ll be restructuring his contract soon. To this point WiColon has been somewhat of a bust due to injuries but we have other needs to address in the draft other than LG. I still think we need to get a big target Receiver and a playmaking OLB with our first two picks. Then i would look at NT OL and see if we can steal Latimore from SC in the third or fourth round. Bring Mendenhall back at a reduced salary and cut ties with Redman and D’wyer. Big Ben having weapons and protection should be our main focus

Why not keep him? He’s garbage, along with all the other garbage were keeping I. E., bringing back Gay! This front office is currently mired in mediocrity and seemingly okay with it.

Colon at LG when he’s healthy has been effective. But he has trouble staying healthy. I don’t see him in Pittsburgh next year at a $5.5 million salary for sure. I personally wouldn’t keep him even at a reduced salary for the same reason. When he goes out, it ruins the continuity of the O-Line. I think we have enough returning O-line talent to dispense with Colon. But it may be a little early to make that decision, and the agent’s statement may be a bargaining ploy.

With Colon in mind, Kevin R., why would we want Lattimore? He was a great back at one time; but after two severe knee injuries, he’s got a limited future in the NFL. Worse, his running style is to invite contact, which will expose the knees to punishment early. He would be a “steal” as an UFA, but we have better uses for a 3rd or 4th rd. pick. Mendy is also injury prone, fumble prone, and an underachiever for his money; I will be surprised if he’s back in 2013.

Willie Colon ? Isnt this the same Colon that played right tackle that either jumped off sides or was caught for holding repeatedly ? We then moved him to left guard and the same penalties continued . When he wasnt called for holding , he was finishing the season on injured reserve or out for multiple games with an injury . If you weigh the pros and cons to this guy , in my opinion , hes not worth it .

I’d much rather have a chance Womack if he were available in the draft. I think everyone here has expressed the same concerns as I do with Colon. However, there are more pressing needs than guard to address early in the draft. I’d still love to have Womack and give Ben everything he needs to succeed, although guards can be had in the mid rounds. In the first I would like to target one of the stud outside linebackers. Hopefully Jordan, Jones, Mingo, or Ansah fall to us at 17.

Quite right, George H. If the team allows Harrison to walk, the need would obviously exist. The pick (D-line or OLB) will depend on the best stud available when our pick comes up, if we haven’t already addressed the OLB position prior to the draft.

Womack? I think you mean the Alabama OG Chance Warmack -6’2″, 322? As the top OG prospect in the draft, he probably won’t fall to #17 anyway. The pundits also expect the top three OTs to be gone by our pick as well. But as you said, “there are more pressing needs… .”

Yea my bad on the spelling, however DeCastro wasn’t supposed to drop last year and he did all the way to 24. As far as defensive linemen go, I’m content with McLendon Ziggy Hood Heyward and whoever else mans the backup dt.

Guys, we’ve invested FOUR early round picks (first or second round) on offensive linemen in the past two-three years! It does not make ANY fiscal sense whatsoever to take another one that early because you not gonna be able to pay them all!!!!

That’s true but that’s also assuming that all of those draft picks pan out. The Steelers need to take the best available talent that fills a team need. If that’s a guard than you should take it.

If they pick ANOTHER linemen with that #1 Pick ima go ballistic! And my heart tells me that’s what is goin to happen..

I’m not too sure we target offensive line in round one now that it appears Colon will be back
