Q&A With Steelers Fans

Earlier today, I put a post on Facebook saying that I will answer all your questions about the Pittsburgh Steelers for 15 minutes. Well to my surprise (I should of known better haha), the Steelers fans were very active and I was answering some great questions for a lot longer than 15 minutes. I believe they received some great knowledge of where the Steelers are heading in the 2013 season, and I know that they are one of the most active fan bases in the NFL. Here are some of the top questions from today.

Q: What will it take for Steelers to sign Bradshaw ?

A: Ahmad Bradshaw‘s visit yesterday was to see how his foot surgery went and how well he is progressing in rehab. The Steelers are still interested in Bradshaw. He averages 4.6 yards a carry and could fill a need on the football team. Steelers could bring Bradshaw back soon for a contract offer.

Q: Do you think the Steelers will have any interest in John Simon from Ohio State?

A: I think the Steelers will definitely have interest in Simon. However, I’m not thinking the Steelers are drafting him in the first round. If he slips to the second that would be even better. Steelers have no depth at safety and I strongly feel that is their top position of need right now. Fact: Steelers have only drafted one safety in the first round…… Troy Polamalu.

Q: Do you think the offensive line will be much better or normal this year with the injuries we almost always have there considering they let Max [Max Starks] and Willie [Willie Colon] go and they always need key backups?

A: I do believe the Steelers’ offensive line will be better this season because of the way our offensive line is evolving. Our new o-line coach likes guys that are more athletic and guys that can really move. A zone blocking scheme. So instead of a guy like Colon who is bigger and has been injury prone, these guys can shift better and are a lot more athletic. We just put up a great article about our offensive line yesterday on the website. I suggest for everyone to read! https://www.steelersgab.com/2013/03/28/the-line-on-the-steelers-offensive-line-and-its-new-coach/

Q: I think we go safety or OLB in the first and maybe a wide receiver. Who would you take if Jarvis Jones, Kenny Vaccaro, or Cordrelle Peterson are available? I tend to think there is an abundance of solid safeties throughout the draft this year and not as much depth at OLB besides the top few at that position.

A: I personally take Kenny Vaccaro although your observations are right. I don’t take Jarvis Jones because of attitude and neck/back injury, and I don’t take Patterson in the first. I think if a Robert Woods from USC is there in the second, you snag him and that could be a steal. Safety is deeper in this draft than years past. You can find a quality one from rounds 1-4. Mike Tomlin was at Texas’ pro day a few days ago and the next day at LSU’s pro day with Kevin Colbert and “coach” Ryan Clark checking out Eric Reid. So that being said, the Steelers will address safety in the first 3 rounds at some point, but out of those three prospects, I’m taking Vaccaro.

Q: Do you think that Worlids can be a solid starter this year at olb. And can he get 10 sacks or more if he starts all year?

A: I do believe Jason Worilds can be a very solid right outside linebacker. Fans want the Steelers to look at Freeney, but Worilds had better stats than Freeney last year when he only started 3 games. Freeney started 14. Steelers LB’s must be able to cover, blitz, and fill gaps. Freeney and Abraham are as coach Tomlin would say: “One-trick Pony’s.” Just read this article and it will give you a little more insight on Worilds. https://www.steelersgab.com/2013/03/26/why-the-steelers-will-not-bring-back-harrison/

Q: What do you make out of the cornerback situation?

A: As many people don’t like the fact that we got William Gay back, I think it’s big. Because he does add depth. He is a solid nickel back and does a good job taking away the slot receiver. That being said, we will have Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen on the outside as our core starters, and Gay on the inside. Other than that, Curtis Brown needs to progress some more and we could get a corner late in the draft.
