Woodley Responds To Teammate Who Called Him Out

Woodley

In an interesting tidbit in the Post Gazette, Ed Bouchette spoke to LB LaMarr Woodley about the offseason and the teammate that criticized him.

Woodly said as follows:

“I don’t listen to nothing. Playing football my whole life growing up, and you’re in the spotlight sometimes it comes with the good and the bad. You just have to know how to accept it.

“I’m one of those guys, I don’t pay attention to much at all. I just go out there and do what I’m supposed to do. And these guys on the team know what I go out there and do each and every day.”

Sounds like Woodley is kinda not happy about the situation, and let’s hope that it shows in his play.

This definitely bothered him and I am glad. Things that bother you in life usually hold some truth. I also believe it will drive him to have one of his best years yet.

I totally agree . Woodley knows he has not been a factor the past two years and it goes directly back to his lack of conditioning . For the Steelers defense to be where it needs to be this year , Woodley has to produce . If hes not , the defense is in trouble .

Not been a factor the last two years? You clearly don’t remember the first half of 2011. The man was a legitimate DPOY candidate and had 9 sacks through the first 8 games, during which had a 4 game stretch without James Harrison and had multiple sacks in each game. The only thing that stopped him was a hamstring pull that ruined the rest of his season. It happens. In 2012 he wasn’t getting the sacks but he was of the top pass rushers in the league at one point in terms of QB pressures per rush attempt (LeBeau often dropped him into coverage more times than he rushed him in a number of games… Most notably week 1 when while missing James Harrison, the only other legitimate pass rushing threat, LeBeau rushed Woodley only 10 times the whole game.). Then Larry Foote rolls up on his ankle, he tweaks his hamstring again and he got a bit out of shape. Understandable that he might gain a little weight while not being able to run.

I get that he needs to be better than he was last year, pre-injury, and i get the frustrations… But people forget what a force he was before he got injured. I have no doubts that he’s going to come in in-shape and hungry to prove all the doubters wrong. And that’s bad news for opposing QBs.

I couldnt care less about the first half of any season . The bottom line with Woodley is , you have to be on the field in November an December when it counts and every game is a must win game . No doubt , Woodley is a talented player , but his conditioning has limited his ability to make plays . The guy looks like a defensive tackle playing outside linebacker . He needs to get his weight down which will definitely help his conditioning and improve his speed coming off the edge . Now that James Harrison is gone , the team needs Woodley to perform at a high level all year , not just five or six games . You cant expect the rookie Jarvis Jones to come in an be an impact player in his first season . Woodley says hes good to go and in great shape . Time will tell .
