Heath Miller to Miss a Month into Regular Season

Heath Miller

If you were one of the several Steelers’ fans that was praying to see tight end Heath Miller (ACL) play in week one against the Tennessee Titans, don’t get your hopes up. Alan Robinson of Trib Total Media is reporting that Miller will not be back for at least the first month of the regular season or even longer.

With Matt Speath down as well with a foot injury, the Steelers will look to David Paulson, a second year tight end from Oregon who played all four quarters of the first preseason game against the New York Giants.

Paulson is a down grade as a blocker, but the 6’4? 246 pound tight end seems to catch everything that is thrown his way. In his rookie season, Paulson saw action in all 16 games at tight end and on special teams. He made five starts and totaled seven receptions for 51 yards.

All offseason, reports made it look that Miller might have been able to return by week one. His biggest supporter of course was quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who went on record and said he would be shocked if Miller was not playing by the first week of the regular season. As a reminder, Miller has not suffered from any set backs, but he still has a while to go before he gets back onto the field. It is better to be safe than it is to be sorry.

The fact that Heath may miss a month of the season really should’nt surprise anyone . What does surprise me is with the Steelers extremely thin at tight end and hardly no game experience to speak of , they had the chance to bring in Dallas Clark and didnt do it . Clark is a proven player who caught 47 balls last season with Tampa Bay , and he would have been a huge upgrade over what the team currently has . Our loss is the Ravens gain , as they signed Clark last week .

I believe they looked at Clark, but they already have a tight end who can catch, is much younger, and cheaper, as this article mentioned; David Paulson. What they need is a tight end who can block, which has NEVER been one of Dallas Clark’s strengths. I hope we can get Heath back and in game shape ASAP.
