Two Turnovers, Three Sacks Lead Steelers To 19-6 Win Over Jets

2:54pm Eastern time on Sunday, October 13th.

Five games into the 2013 season for the Steelers the team finally was able to get a turnover, and it was a big one, a Ryan Clark pick inside the Steelers five-yard line to help out in the eventual Steelers 19-6 win over the Jets.

The Steelers got a second pick late holding a 13-point lead, as a hit on Jets QB Geno Smith inside the Steelers 20-yard-line allowed LB Lawrence Timmons to pick off a pass to seal the win.

The win was big in oh so many ways for the Steelers, as for the first time this season it all finally came together.

Win number one puts the Steelers at 1-4 on the year, dropping the Jets at 3-3.

The win also helps in the division, as the Ravens lost to the Packers at home, while the Browns lost to Detroit at home.

The Bengals beat the Bills in OT, which means they are 4-2, while the Browns and Ravens are both 3-3.

Ben Roethlisberger was great for the Steelers, putting up his best game of the year, going 23-for-30 for 264 yards with a touchdown, and he was sacked twice.

As for Jets rookie QB, the Steelers D laid down a solid beating on him, holding him to 18-for-33 passing for 192 yards with three sacks and two picks.

The Steelers offense put up 324 yards to just 258 for the Jets. Le’Veon Bell had 34 yards on 16 carries for the Steelers.

The first half was nothing by field goals, as the Steelers led it 9-6 thanks to three good kicks by Shaun Suisham to give them a three-point lead.

They put the game away in the third when on a beautiful play action by Roethlisberger, who hit a racing Emmanuel Sanders for a 55-yard score to make it 16-6 with 12:30 to play in the third quarter.

The defense held the Jets in check the rest of the way, holding them scoreless for the final 30 minutes, and making sure there was no hopes of a New York comeback.

Pittsburgh held New York to 268 yards, while the Steelers offense put up 328.

Dick LeBeau is now a lifetime 16-2 against rookie QB’s as a defensive coordinator, and did his best all day to confuse Smith and make sure to close down passing lanes.

Getting turnovers didn’t hurt either, and the Steelers were able to record three sacks of Smith, this after having four sacks in the first four games.

The Steelers are at Heinz Field next Sunday to host the now 3-3 Ravens at 4:25pm.
