Report: Roethlisberger Wants Out? Agent Says Not So Fast

Pittsburgh Steelers v Oakland Raiders

When a season goes bad, you start to hear stories about certain players wanting out, and today that NFL media machine took center stage in the Steel City.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said today that Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger may want out of Pittsburgh this offseason, and that the team may consider dealing quarterback dealing him if they “could replace [him] with a franchise quarterback” in the draft.

Roethlisberger still has two years left on his current contract, with $12.1 million in base salary due next season and $11.6 million in ’15, and he’s already went over $70 mil in his deal that he inked with the team 2008.

“Ben Roethlisberger is not happy,” Rapoport reported. “[He’s] incredibly frustrated with the direction the franchise is headed.”

It’s interesting to note that CBS NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora said there’s nothing to the rumor of Ben wanting out of Pittsburgh.

Instead of Roethlisberger going, I think it’s a LOT more obvious that the team would axe offensive coordinator Todd Haley instead after the season.

Under Haley the offense has gone backwards, and someone has to take the blame, and it will be Haley, who has been terrible trying to lead this team in any type of offensive gameplan.

As for Roethlisberger, until he comes out and says something about not wanting to be a Steeler anymore, I won’t believe that he doesn’t want to be in Pittsburgh.

His agent put water on the rumor before kickoff Sunday.

Matt Loede has been in the sports media for over 16 years, with experience covering the MLB, NBA, and NFL. On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Matt studies and talks football inside and out, and is anxious to share his thoughts and comments with readers on a daily basis.
