The final roster cuts for the Pittsburgh Steelers 2014 roster have been made. Some surprising moves were expected and made. The roster is all but complete and this is one of the first major steps for the Steelers on their way to ring number 7.

Steelers 2014 roster moves:

OLB Chris Carter, OT Guy Whimper, CB Shaquille Richardson, WR Derek Moye, TE David Paulson, TE Rob Blanchflower, DE Josh Mauro, DE Nick Williams, OLB Howard Jones, CB Isaiah Green, WR Lanear Sampson, LB Dan Molls, RB Stephen Houston, RB Josh Harris, LS Bryce Davis, DE Ethan Hemer, DT Roy Philon, S Ross Ventrone, QB Brendon Kay, CB Dayonne Nunley, G Will Simmons, G Graham Pocic were all cut from the team. There was a feeling that OLB Chris Carter, and Howard Jones would battle it out to make the last OLB spot behind Arthur Moats.

Likely practice squad candidates are OLB Howard Jones, OG Will Simmons ,TE Rob Blanchflower, and DE Nick Williams.

How about the inept-tomlin-run Steelers sign Champ Bailey to a one year one million dollar contract and then he can play in the nickel or dime…maybe even challenge taylor or allen for base d reps. The latter probably not a good idea as he is aged but he realistically can’t be worse than Gay or whoever we throw out there as the dime back. Make room by releasing the last cb we kept. No, it makes too much sense!

Some fans believe that Bill Cowher should have won more than one Super Bowl with the talent he had. Perhaps. Reasonable minds can differ on that. But when Cowher coached the Steelers, his draft cuts were prized by other teams like little gold nuggets. That was how deep our talent was ten years ago.

Now look at the roster cuts for 2014 above and guess how many of them will make other rosters this year. This is just another way of illustrating what I’ve said here for several years: the Steelers simply lack talent. Yet, Mr. Smith believes these cuts are “one of the first major steps for the Steelers on their way to ring number 7.” Really, Robert? Were you watching the same preseason games we saw? Did you happen to see the Ravens (4-0 in preseason) running over the Saints and Redskins — without Rice?

Get real, Robert. The 2014 Steelers are going to struggle to come in second in their own division. If the team suffers key injuries to Ben, the O-line, or the defensive secondary, we won’t even finish 8-8. But ring # 7? That’s right up there with Matt Loede’s prediction two years ago that Ziggy Hood would be defensive MVP. Are you guys still ordering pizzas with those funny little mushrooms?

Also, can anyone tell me if it is indeed true that Shaquille Richardson, who was waived, either made it to the 53 or practice squad???? Behind the steel curtain says he was resigned to the practice squad but the OFFICIAL steelers website, http://www.steelers.com, has him listed as a CB on the active 53 man roster. The steelers.com site also has 7 corners listed with that clown they signed from Dallas and Shaquille Richardson as the 6th and 7th cbs respectively which makes 54 total payers (one too many), I realize the steelers want to keep 6, not 7,corners. So I’m confused.

Agreed, Doc, the only possible silver lining to what you said is that Tomlin will be on his way out if that happens. And I am all for that while keeping close tabs on Kevin Colbert and the proverbial hot seat. The three things that make a good head coach are discipline, X’s and O’s, and getting the team to play for you. Tomlin is obviously not a great, not even a good, X’s and O’s guy as evidenced by the fact that the administration has surrounded him with three former HC’s, he obviously lacks in the discipline realm as evidenced by all the bullshit that happened(s) under his watch. The only thing that I believe keeps him around is that he seems to get players to play for him but if that goes, and believe me with another subpar, playoff less season, it very well might, he won’t have that either. Then what will he have. I feel it has been very hard to get behind The Steelers (the way I used to) with MT as the HC. I believe he gets too much credit for the (cowher team) Super Bowls and not enough blame for this recent tailspin. Remember Tomlin backers, cowher did inherit nolls guys but he DID NOT inherit a franchise QB like Tomlin did. When cowher was finally able to draft his own guys, including BB, he won….tomlin, on the other hand and with a franchise QB IN HIS PRIME, seems to be getting worse and worse the farther and farther he gets from Cowher’s guys and the closer he gets to his team exclusively guys. Not good and not debatable by Tomlin backers.

Steelers.com just fixed the shaq Richardson typo. He’s on the practice squad. Was hoping that he was actually on the 53 man roster. I think by mid season and with the amount of time he will have to both heal AND show the coaches what he can do, he will supplant and replace someone like Brice McCain or Webb from Dallas.

Tomlin has been given too many chances over the last 8 years. Fire Him Already!
