Steelers Injury Report: Pittsburgh without Taylor against Falcons

Pittsburgh Steelers v Baltimore Ravens

When the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the Georgia Dome on Sunday to take on the Atlanta Falcons, they will be without veteran cornerback Ike Taylor.  Taylor reinjured his forearm against the Cincinnati Bengals in week 14 and also has a shoulder injury.  Although he is listed as ‘doubtful’, it is highly likely that Taylor will be sat in favor of Antwon Blake who had a good game against the Bengals.

Outside linebacker James Harrison has had knee issues over the years and is questionable to play on Sunday.  Jarvis Jones and Stephon Tuitt are both expected to be utilized more this week.  Steve McLendon has come back from a shoulder injury and Marcus Gilbert an ankle injury.  Both are expected to be available to the Steelers in Atlanta.

Cornerback William Gay (quadricep), defensive end Cameron Heyward (not injury related), tight end Heath Miller (not injury related), center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (not injury related) all saw some time away from practice and listed as ‘probable’, but will play on Sunday.

The Falcons have a few injuries of their own.  Notably, receiver Julio Jones was limited all week in practice and worked on the sideline with athletic performance staff according to Atlanta head coach Mike Smith.  “I want the doctors to say he’s ready to go,” Smith said. “It’s not going to be a decision I’m going to make.  It’s not going to be a decision that Julio is going to make.”  When asked if he felt Jones would go on Sunday, Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said, “I think he’ll be there.  He’s a great competitor.  If there’s any way he can play he’ll play.  We have to get ready for the strong possibility that he will play.  If he doesn’t, it doesn’t make any difference.  We have to stop who’s there.”

Atlanta has ruled out cornerback Robert Alford (wrist) and Patrick DiMarco (fullback) and William Moore (safety) are questionable after not practicing this week.  Offensive guards Justin Blalock and Jon Asamoah both have back injuries but are expected to be available.  Defensive tackle Paul Soliai (shoulder) is also probable.
