Hype over 2015 NFL Draft Has Odds-Makers In Full Drama-Mode

Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota 2015 NFL Draft

Jameis Winston versus Marcus Mariota – it’s a topic of discussion that isn’t going to go away until both of their names are announced from the podium.  Both players have opted to remain home with family and friends, snubbing (per some) the in-person invitation to be seen live with the ‘Commish’.  Whether you are interested in either of these players or not, Hall-of-Fame receiver Michael Irvin was animatedly upset over the fact neither prospect will be in the Windy City.

In an interview with USA Today, Irvin said:

“I understand you want to be with your family, Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, but you’re a quarterback.  Nobody profits more from this league more than quarterbacks and I do have an issue with them not being there…Don’t big-time it, and that’s what I feel is being done.”

Love him or hate him, Irvin shared strong opinions regardless of the fact that both Winston and Mariota chose to remain home for very personal reasons.  Mariota wanted to celebrate his heritage in Hawaii, telling Eric Endholm of Shutdown Corner, “For me, culturally, it was an opportunity to pay my respects to where I came from. Being able to spend the moment, this big moment, with all the people who have made sacrifices, who have put forth so much hard work for me, that was important to me. It should be really cool.”  Winston publicly stated on NFL Network that due to his grandmother’s diabetic condition, he wanted to remain home.  “My grandmother, she can’t travel,” Winston said.  “She has type 2 diabetes and has had multiple surgeries.  And I wanted her to be there.  She’s been…my life.  Both of my grandmothers.  My mom’s mom raised me.  She passed away when I was 14.  That’s my motivation.  My dad’s mom, she’s fighting diabetes.  She’s my motivation…”

And Irvin, what was his concern rather than the two young men showing respect to their families?

“I think Jameis would benefit especially from the opportunity to talk to guys like Cris (Carter) and I…”

Yes, that was an abbreviation of the entire statement, but I think you see where this is going.  Irvin calls out their motives yet has the gall to say they are selfish because they won’t be there in person to speak to HIM.  Thank goodness there is no drama in professional football.
