The Day After; Four Takeaways from the Steelers Huge Win in Cincinnati

2. The Defense was Good…Until

It was maddening after the Steelers were unable to get what could have been the clinching touchdown to see the defense fold like a deck of cards, allowing Cincinnati to march right down the field and score what almost was the game-winning TD.

The defense is still very much a work in progress, and it felt like there were two instances on Sunday where they just didn’t get the job done.

The first was at the end of the first half when they let Cincy quickly march downfield and get the game tying score in the final seconds of the half.

Then the drive with the Steelers up 20-14 was frustrating to say the least. The Bengals went 9 plays, 75 yards, in just 2:14, and Joe Mixon punched it in to give them the one-point lead.

Overall the defense allowed just 275 yards, which is solid, but through six games this defense has allowed the MOST yards in the history of the team through six games.

That has to improve.
