• Green Gone – Steelers Release TE Ladarius Green After Just One Season

Ladarius Green’s time with Steelers is over, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The team released Green, a tight end signed in 2016 to replace Heath Miller, after a failed physical. He played six games last season due to injury.

Green was the team’s most notable addition last offseason and was expected to add another pass-catching weapon to the offense, but missed the start of the season because of ankle surgery and headaches.

Green wound up starting twice and making 18 catches for 304 yards and a touchdown, then was concussed in Week 15 against Cincinnati, ending his seaso

  • Report: Steelers Ink FordhamTE Phazahn Odom Following Minicamp

The Steelers have added another piece to their roster, as reports say the team has come to terms with former Fordham tight end Phazahn Odom.

Odom was an All-state basketball player in high school who averaged 19 points and 14 rebounds per game. We’ll see if his game can translate to the NFL and if he can do enough to make the Steelers roster.

  • Steelers Release Four Players Including CB Al-Hajj Shabazz and WR Canaan Severin

The Steelers released veteran quarterback Zach Mettenberger on Monday, and today Missi Matthews reports the team has let go of a couple more players from their roster.

Brown-Dukes is a running back who was added to the practice squad back in late December, Johnson, another running back, came aboard the practice squad the second week in January.

Wide out Severin joined the team last season from the University of Virginia, and at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds he could have rounded into an interesting player, and was even talked about as a sleeper for the club, but obviously didn’t do enough for the team to justify a roster spot.

Al-Hajj Shabazz was added to the 53-man roster December 23rd of last season after Shamarko Thomas was placed on IR. He was back and forth on the teams’ practice squad as well as the team, as he even spent time with the Texans last season.

  • Steelers Sign DL Hooks and Philon to Contracts

The Steelers signed defensive linemen Lavon Hooks and Roy Philon to contracts on Monday, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Both players were in training camp last summer with the team. Philon was waived/injured on Aug. 14, and Hooks was released Sept. 3 in the final round of roster cuts.

  • Steelers Release Former Cleveland First-Round Pick CB Justin Gilbert

The Steelers made a move last September adding former Cleveland Browns first-round pick Justin Gilbert to the roster, and in just one season they determined he wasn’t worthy of a roster spot despite his draft status.

Today the team released Gilbert, a player who never lived up to the hype and likely will have a tough time finding future work in the NFL.

Gilbert didn’t do all that much for the Steelers after the Browns traded him to Pittsburgh in a rare inter-divisional move in early September.

He returned some kicks in the postseason for the black and gold, but didn’t do much in terms of their defense and most of the season ended up on the inactive list.
