What’s With All the Doom and Gloom?

Bill not happy with the Rooney's?

You know, the Steelers have had an incredible team for 40 years, and an incredible organization for 75+. So what is with all the doom and gloom people? Why is everyone hating on the Steelers, including, their own fans!

I read today on Profootballtalk.com that Bill Cowher may have left because of the turmoil between the Rooney brothers. Now I realize that is just speculation, but I doubt that is why Bill left. I truly believe Cowher left because he was burnt out and just needed a break. Can you blame the guy, he was the longest tenured Head Coach at the time he left. 15 years of working 300 days a year, probably 15 hours a day! I would have quite long before that. Thanks Bill Cowher for all you have done for this franchise, our city, and its adoring fans!

My second gripe is with the local fans and media, talking about our Offensive line and how we are 2nd in our division to the Browns. People, we won the division last year! I will be the first to admit that Cleveland is finally a formidable foe for us to be weary of, but come on! We are still Division Champions, so prove it to me. I’m glad Cleveland can finally make things interesting again, but I don’t believe they are going to beat us! I will argue all day with anyone who says they are a Steelers fan and then as soon as the other team scores they say something like “Ah, they suck. We’re going to lose!” No, not me. Guess what all the NFL guys are pros! People are going to score on us, and us on them. It doesn’t mean our team sucks. Shut your mouths and let the game play out. Get ready for us to lose 5 or 6 games this year. We still make the playoffs!

Let’s get pumped up for a great season, with Tomlin better prepared, Ben 100% healthy and in his 2nd year with Bruce Arians! I’m betting the O-line is fixed with Hartwig at Center, Smith 100% healthy and the other pieces of the puzzle worked out. I’m excited about our D, especially Timmons, Woodley and Harrison in the linebacking core. I’m glad we have Ryan Clark back and healthy. Lets hope that some of the other young guys we brought in can do something on special teams to help out our Offense and Defense for some better field position. I know Mewelde Moore will help as will Santonio if he gets to play some on ST.

Aside from the on field concerns fans have, they are now all worried about the ownership situation. The Steelers organization is in fine hands whether it is with the Rooneys or with Druckenmiller. Tradition is the key. No one likes change, because its hard. Think about how many other teams in the NFL have changed ownership, changed head coaches or worse, changed cities. We are truly lucky to have what we’ve had, and I don’t think anyone is going to change that. Especially a guy from Pittsburgh.

Thanks for listening to me vent!

I agree with you. If people would remember that last year the injuries on the team also effected the end of the season there attitiudes would change. Troy, Starks, Willie, all were out or hurt at the end of the season. I also have watched about 4 games on NFL Replay and as much as I love Alan he got beat about 3 to 5 times a game. Remeber that the 15-1 season had a lot of the same buzz before it started.
