Pregame Thoughts from the Press Box at Heinz Field

* Gameday here in Pittsburgh, and the weather isn’t a problem at all.  Yet.  I think we’ll see some high winds as the day goes along, and there is a chance of some rain.  With that, it was nice driving in and having to put sunglasses on, and not having to be frozen walking into the press box.

* The “breaking news” today from Cleveland is that both Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage will be gone – possibly as early as tomorrow.  Here is the clip from today’s Cleveland Plain Dealer: “Sources close to the situation have said that both men will probably be asked to step down from their current positions, as early as Monday.”  Personally, wouldn’t you be more surprised if they are both NOT gone as of tomorrow?

* I wonder if Mike Tomlin is thinking the Giants were on to something when all their starters played in a meaningless game last season in week 17 vs the Patriots.  It sounds like Tomlin is focused on playing today’s game like it means a lot.  And yes, it would be nice for the team to win their final game to go 12-4, 6-0 in the division and go into the playoffs on an up note.  But, let’s not get stupid and get players hurt either.

* Don’t kid yourself, the Browns already have the bus warmed up and are ready to go back to Cleveland.  They don’t want to be here today, and won’t play this game with much intensity.  The Steelers should be able to come out, dictate the tempo, and put this team away early.
