Big Decision Coming This Offseason on WR Washington

From: Pro Football Weekly

With unrestricted free agency pending for Steelers WR Nate Washington, the club is left with an interesting decision on its hands, a source close to the club suggests. Washington is not a starter, but he’s one of the more dangerous No. 3 receivers in the game, and he’s averaged better than 15 yards a catch in each of the last three seasons. The way we hear it, whether the Steelers bring back Washington could very well depend on their faith in WR Limas Sweed to show more as a second-year player than he did as a rookie, catching only six passes in 11 games in 2008 and two fumbles.

Matt Loede has been in the sports media for over 16 years, with experience covering the MLB, NBA, and NFL. On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Washington is a “must returner”! I dont care what Sweed does, Nate has been very good for this team and has become very dependable. He can stretch the field and goes over the middle, he can jump and run and has come up with BIG catches last year and this year. This is a NO-BRAINER! Why weaken a position by hoping Sweed becomes better? Nate is there and they will NOT have to break the bank to sign him. Go into next season with the same receiving corps, including Sweed. Save those draft picks for the REAL NEEDS!!!!

I agree totally with Mark….However, won’t Nate request one or two money??? Can we afford to keep him as a three…I say give him comparable two money and move Ward into the slot and then try to defend us with Heath on the other side…We need big men in the draft…a year from now if Sweed has not improved, then I’ll say he’s a bust FOR SURE. I just like when Ravens get hurt…that doesn’t make me a bad guy( wink, wink)!

good one Jay! I really dont know if Nate gets 1 or 2 money. Is he worth that money, No but he is a great fit in Pittsburgh and you can see the comfort level in Ben when throwing to him. I will stand by seeing Nate stay and money spent in areas of need. Anyone who saw Sweed drop the beautiful throw by Leftwich last night should agree with us on keeping Nate.
