Ryan Clark Wants Troy Polamalu to Sit Sunday

The Tribune-Review talked to Ryan Clark, and he says he wants his friend, Troy Polamalu, to not rush back against the Lions:

Ryan Clark is one of Troy Polamalu’s closest friends. And as one of his closest friends, Clark felt obligated to offer Polamalu some sound advice. “I don’t want him to (play Sunday against Detroit),” Clark said. Clark is worried that the artificial surface at Ford Field will do more damage to Polamalu’s recovering knee if his friend decides to play Sunday when the Steelers visit the Lions. “I tore my PCL a few years ago, and (turf) is just tough to run on,” Clark said. “It is a pounding. Some of them aren’t very fluffy. Me personally, I would rather have him for the last 10 (games) or the last stretch rather than have him come out and injure himself again and set himself back.”

Polamalu is a fierce competitor and no doubt wants to play, but Ryan Clark is both a good friend and a prudent voice in advising him to wait. Troy will be needed far more later in the season, and ligament tears take a long time to fully heal. Tomlin has the smarts to do the cost-benefit analysis and will keep Polamalu sidelined for another week or two for the good of the player and the team.

I agree with Ryan Clark, Troy should sit out this week…

Its hard as a fan to say keep Troy benched. Personally I would dress him and see how he feels making cuts on the field. If hes not the usual Troy, sit him and let the rest of the D make up for his absence.

Usually against a struggling team like the Lions, the Steelers would wait another week and go out and beat them without Troy. I really cannot imagine Troy playing this week unless the staff is certain he is 90-100%. I am a doubter that this is the case. With games against the Lions, Browns coming up I would think 2 more weeks of rest is the smart thing. Then you can have Troy back for Favre and the Vikings and then the bye week. Should the Steelers find themselves 4-2 before the Vikings, I wouldnt be surprised to see Troy after the bye.

Ryan should work out a deal with Troy. Troy sits out this week to heal, and in exchange, Ryan sits out Nov. 9th against Denver. It almost killed him last time he played there. As a parent with twin sons who also have sickle cell trait, I really hope Ryan takes himself out of that game.
