Walker: Kicker Reed Would Be Tough to Replace

There’s some free agent talk in the AFC North these days, and James Walker the blogger from ESPN is giving some thoughts on some of the “under the radar” free agents, one of which is Steelers kicker Jeff Reed:

Jeff Reed

Position/team: Kicker, Pittsburgh Steelers

Why he’s important: As we alluded to earlier on Tuesday, there has been a lot of bad kicking in the NFL this season. The Steelers have a reliable kicker in Reed, and that’s likely enough to keep him. Heinz Field is a very difficult stadium to kick field goals, but Reed often makes it look routine. He’s had some off-the-field incidents recently, and that’s probably the only reason Pittsburgh may have reservations.

Chances of staying: 70 percent

Hmmm…I would have to agree that Reed has been one kicker that seems to make the big kicks in Heinz Field, and if the Steelers decide they are going to go in another direction with the kicking game, it’s going to be though to find a guy that can make those big kicks at critical points like Reed. If the team does decide to go with another kicker in 2010, expect some growing pains in the kicking game.

Reed is a must keeper! Unless someone is going back in time and bringing back a prime Gary Anderson, this is a no-brainer.

No doubt, The Steelers must resign Reed. Theres only a handful of good kickers in the league and Reed has been consistantly at the top of the list. If the Steelers do run the ball more next season, then FGs are going to be a big factor in our offense. Lets hope Reed comes back. Oh and yes I know Reed is a tool off the field, but have new restrictions in his contract to help prevent him from being a bonehead

By all reports, Reed has learned his lesson and become a grownup off the field. On the field, he’s among the best, and the Steelers have more urgent issues. Barring a calamity or a gross misjudgment, Reed will still be one of the Steelers next year.

Fuck Jeff Reed, how bout him being the last guy to prevent kickoff returns and he failed, three times. And dont say its not his job when Dan Sepulvida can do it, and do it well. You wear pads and a helmet, you better play football, no matter what your position is. Again I say, fuck Jeff Reed, and his bullshit off the field. He can take all that shit to Buffalo along with the other big mouth T.O Fuck you Jeff reed and the 21 points you helped give the other teams…

So you’re saying we should re-sign him, right metal drummer?

Well metal drummer- solution to your kickoff dilema… make Sepulveda of kicker on kickoffs… btw most kickers are horrible tacklers, but most kickers arent very good at kicking anyway. Jeff Reed on the other hand has been extremely reliable throughout the years, no question… resign Reed
