Holmes wouldn’t have been on the roster to start 10 anyway

The Steelers had soured so much on wide out Santonio Holmes that the Post-Gazette says he was going to be released and wouldn’t have been with the team anyway in 2010. The paper goes on to say the team was furious about Holmes’ issues with a woman in Florida that charged him with throwing a glass at her at a nightclub, and then made matters worse with bizarre Twitter messages, one of which told a fan to kill himself, and another seemed to indicate his desire to wake up and smoke pot.

The team basically took what they could get for the former Super Bowl MVP, which was a fifth-round pick from the Jets. Holmes’ new job in New York didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts, as he won’t be around for the first four games of the 2010 season, as he was slapped with a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
