Allen’s number a sign Townsend’s not coming back?

There hasn’t been much chatter as of late about veteran corner Deshea Townsend, who was expected to be able to test the free agent market before the Steelers made any thought of an offer to him. Well, it’s two days before the draft, and Townsend is still available, but as the Post-Gazette points out today, yesterday at practice new safety Will Allen was wearing Townsend’s old number – 26. This could be a sign that the veteran corner may be stuck without a team, or the Steelers may not have an interest in making him an offer till after they see what secondary help they can get in the draft the next few days.

On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Im ok with this, but I will say that I have been a Towsend fan all thru his career. He has been steady and dependable as a Cb. I’m glad a player like that has 2 rings for his efforts. Maybe Deshea can find a taker for a year and help a team? I hope so because a classy veteran like that deserves a good ending. Heres a question: after Woodson,Blount and Woodruff, where do we rank Townsend? He had a long and productive career with the Steelers!
