Would the Steelers bring back Summers as a RB instead of a FB?

The Post-Gazette seems to feel that the team should bring back Frank Summers, but instead of having him be a fullback, he should get chances to carry the ball.

Among those who should be signed to the practice squad is Frank Summers, but the coaches should re-think how they use him. Summers is not a blocking back, he’s a runner, and the attempts to make him into a lead blocker did not go well. They should allow him to run. He did not have a carry this preseason while Justin Vincent had 11 carries and Dwayne Wright, who was waived on the first cut last week, had eight. As a rookie, Summers had three carries.

On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Matt studies and talks football inside and out, and is anxious to share his thoughts and comments with readers on a daily basis.

i totaly agree. i think they are taking away his strength at wat he does best. and thats a strait ahead downhill runner, not a blocker. i sure hope they finally realize this.

True. That’s probably why it seems so unnatural to watch Summers. He’s a runner not a blocker. Why would you teach someone at this professional level something other then what he’s been working at his whole career thus far? Furthermore, I believe they should have both Summers and Redman on the team as RB’s.
