Season over for QB Dixon

In a move we speculated on awhile back, the Steelers today put QB Dennis Dixon on IR, ending his 2010 season. The move isn’t that shocking, as it means the team will keep Charlie Batch when Ben Roethlisberger gets back next week.

I have to believe that Dixon has played his last game as a Steeler. I cant imagine the Steelers tying up significant money in him for next year as a back-up again since he really didnt “light it up” when he had his chances to play. His recent injury hurt his development, but his rather quick recovery should have kept him in the mix. I think the decision to put him on I.R said a lot about how much the Steelers feel about Batch and Leftwich behind Ben. If Batch retires at seasons end, the team will have little trouble signing a 3rd QB. Dixon could not be considered the future because the future is now and it remains in Ben’s hands for many more seasons.
