Some Justice: Two Ravens Fined for Hits in Steelers Win

The NFL has hit a couple Ravens with fines following the Steelers 13-10 win over the birds on Sunday night. Linebacker Jameel McClain was fined $40,000 for his helmet hit that left Steeler tight end Heath Miller with a concussion.

Ravens nose tackle Haloti Ngata was fined $15,000 for hitting Ben Roethlisberger’s helmet and breaking the Pittsburgh quarterback’s nose. Ngata’s left hand raked across the quarterback’s face during Pittsburgh’s first offensive series. Ngata was not penalized.

McClain was not penalized for a hit that bent Miller’s head and neck backward during the third quarter Sunday night. Miller remained on the turf for several minutes before being helped off the field.

Even before the game ended, multiple NFL officials said the hit should have been penalized. On Monday evening, the fine was announced.

Yeah the fines are good but it just confirms the fact that on both plays flags should have flied and we could have benefited from the yardage given in the GAME!I saw a still action photo on another Steelers website that clearly shows head linesman # 98 about 15-20 feet from the hit on Heath and looking right at the play as it happened. What happened, flag get stuck in your pocket Mr. #98? It will be interesting over the final four games to see if the tide turns and maybe we get fewer flags thrown against us and maybe you’ll even see a roughing the passer called on our QB. I think he’s had like three his whole career.

James Harrison gets fined $75,000 for his hit on Massaquoi, while McClain only gets fined $40,000 for what could have been a career/life ending hit on Heath. Just doesn’t make sense.
I think the NFL should at least come up with a system that characterizes these hit by varying degrees, instead of coming up with these random numbers each week for fines.

I was livid! Glad to see the fines, but a little TOO late. We get hit week after week without calls. I’m tired of seeing our guys penalized and watch NOTHING happen to the other team when they are 10 times worse with fouls not called. NFL – start charging the REFS for missed calls. Something serious like what happened to Ben and Heath, we should have seen at least one flag.

Yes, it’s so “ironic” that refs just happen to miss the calls when the Steeler players get hit, but have no problem calling everything close on the Steelers. How many times did the Ravens hit Ben in the helmet? I counted three. I am hoping now though that the attention of this game will help us with calls down the road.

Anyway, I found a hilarious video on youtube on the subject…enjoy!

Who cares about the fines. Throw the flag all the time or keep it in your pocket and let them play. These guys know the risks they are taking.

So are you trying to say that the hit on Heath Miller which could have seriously injure him was justified without a penalty?
