Roethlisberger Says He Played Sunday with a Broken Right Thumb

Ben Roethlisberger played Sunday with a broken right thumb, this according to a tweet from Scott Brown at the Tribune-Review.

The QB was 21-for-33 for 245 yards with a touchdown and a pick in the 24-17 win. This year he’s thrown for 2877 yards with 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. While he may have a broken thumb, Roethlisberger said it he will play in Kansas City on Sunday night, November 27th when the Steelers come off the bye week.

Matt, is there some way to check the source on this story? It doesn’t sound right to me. A QB with a broken thumb on his throwing hand shouldn’t be playing at all and probably couldn’t even pick up a football. Maybe Scott Brown meant ‘a hairline fracture’ or ‘dislocated’ or ‘cracked.’ Or maybe the fracture is at the very tip of the thumb. But a complete fracture of the long bone of the thumb would be downright incapacitating. If Ben R. is planning to play versus KC in two weeks, this injury couldn’t be as bad as Brown’s report makes it sound.
