This growing list of nagging injuries worries me, but The Tony seems to think we’re healthy enough to go the distance. I hope he’s right.

With the age of our team in mind, however, let me give some credit where it is due. For weeks, I’ve been lamenting the failure of our young guys to step up. Well, against Cincinnati, that finally happened. Heyward blocked a field goal try; Curtis Brown, Kennan Lewis, and Jason Worilds were solid; and we’ve already recognized the development of Marcus Gilbert, Wes Saunders, Chris Carter, Cortez Allen, and Stevenson Sylvester. Even Ziggy Hood made an unassisted tackle. Tonight, all of these young studs should get their chance to shine in the national spotlight.

And let me mention a kid who has quietly slipped onto the roster from the practice squad, but hasn’t had his big chance yet — #42 Damon Cromartie-Smith, a Safety out of UTEP. This guy has the talent to be something special. Our roster is a tough one for a rookie Safety to crack, and I don’t know if he has mastered the intricacies of our defense yet, but when this guy gets on the field, good things happen. I don’t know how he slipped to us through the draft, but he is another of Mr. Colbert’s golden UFA finds. Tonight LeBeau may finaly turn him loose. Watch for him.
