Dwyer and Mendenhall Both Doubtful for Sunday; Redman to Start at RB

It appears that the Steelers will be going with Isaac Redman at the RB spot Sunday when the team travels to play the Giants in New Jersey.

Both Jonathan Dwyer (quad) and Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles) are listed as doubtful according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and both did not practice Friday.

Mendenhall was limited this week in practice and is expected to return Week 10. Missing Dwyer is a big blow after two big games vs the Bengals and Redskins in which he went over 100 yards in both.

Redman will do well, as long as his ankle holds up. Don’t be surprised if Will Johnson gets a few carries too; he’s a better runner than Baron, although he lacks breakaway speed. All we need is the ability to run on short yardage and in the red zone to keep defenses honest. But if the O-line can’t block the Giants’ front 7, it doesn’t matter who carries the ball. Conversely, if the O-line executes, any of our RBs are more than adequate to the task. The O-line is the question, not the RBs.
