Steelers to Honor Former LB Kevin Greene with Ring Ceremony October 2nd

Kevin Greene

The Steelers will give some love to former linebacker and soon to be Hall of Famer Kevin Greene this season, as the team announced on Wednesday they will honor him with a special ring ceremony on October 2nd.

The ceremony will take place during the team’s Sunday Night Football game at home against the Chiefs at Heinz Field.

Greene spent three memorable seasons with the Black and Gold during the 1990’s, when he and fellow outside linebacker Greg Lloyd made it a weekly mission to see who could get to the quarterback first.

He came to the Steelers as a free agent after playing with the Los Angeles Rams from 1985 to 1992. He inked a three-year deal with the Steelers, playing under Bill Cowher from 1992 to 1995. His last game with the Steelers was the teams loss in Super Bowl XXX to Dallas.

After his time with the Steelers he moved on to play with the Panther in 1996, San Francisco in 1997, and then back to Carolina for two more seasons in 1998 and 1999.

He’s a three-time first-team All-Pro (1989, 1994 and 1996) and a five-time Pro Bowler (1989, 1994-96 and 1998), and ranks third all-time in NFL history with 160.0 sacks.

While with the Steelers he put up 35.5 sacks in his three seasons, second-most sacks in any three-year span in Steelers’ history.

I dont want to diminish what Kevin Greene did as a player because as a pass rushing linebacker he was one of the best to ever play the game . However , I will say this . Its seems so unfair , for a player that only played three years for the Steelers to be going into the Hall of Fame and then you have a player who gave twelve years to the Steelers and four Super Bowls by the name of L. C. Greenwood who has consistently been slapped in the face by the Hall of Fame voters for more than twenty years . Greenwood was every bit as dominant as his teammate Joe Greene was and for anyone that doubts it , just watch the film . It doesnt lie . Take a minute and go on you tube and checkout the highlights of Super Bowl IX . Greenwood played one of the best games a defensive lineman has ever played and thats just one game . At the end of the day , it certainly isnt Kevin Greenes fault and he deserves all the accolades he gets , but somehow , is just doesnt seem fair .

Totally agree Dave! KG was a dominant pass rusher and stout against the run but LC is a legend and it’s a sin that the powers that be don’t recognize that!
