Ward Should Not Be So Concerned About the Comments from Roethlisberger

Now that a lot of readers have weighed in on the latest Hines Wards comments that he made back to Ben Roethlisberger about the team needing a wide out – here are my thoughts.  If I was to have a direct line to Hines, I would tell him one thing – get some thicker skin.  Ben asking for a wide out with some height means nothing against Ward, nor should it have been taken that way.  All Ben was doing was expressing an opinion about what type of player the team should look for in free agency or the draft.

Ben also said a few years back that the team should have kept wide out Plaxico Burress, yet they didn’t.  And instead of filling Plax’s role with another tall wide out, they went out and got undersized Cedric Wilson, who for the most part has been a bust in his three seasons with the team.  As far as Hines goes, you are and will still be a main cog in the Steelers offense.

I don’t see the backup offensive linemen that would be playing guard being upset with Ben saying the team needs to keep free-agent to be Alan Faneca.  Why?  Becuase they know better that keeping Faneca would make the team better.  Same theory goes with getting a taller target for Roethlisberger.  No doubt this team needs to stop worrying about their hurt feelings and needs to start playing a little bit tougher.  And that focus falls on Mike Tomlin.

Hines Wards need only let his record do his talking. If his record is great, it will speak well of him.
If his record is “tiny”, it will have little to speak on him.

Performance is a manipulative form of love and should never be foisted on anyone.
However, in football, performance is everything. So foist away.

    Keep in mind,
the same height talk/performance talk is true for Ben’s position.
“Tiny” Doug Flutie made the “Hail Mary” pass of his life (Boston College days).
It was the equivalent of a flea tossing a chip of sand across Arkansas. His height was not the variable. And height is not the variable elsewhere. You play with what you got.

By the way, the loser quarterback against Flutie in that Hail Mary see-saw was none other than…..Bernie Kosar. 🙂

I agree with you about everything but the Tomlin comment. Hines is a veteran who should know better than to stir things up over a pretty innocent statement by Big Ben. Can’t blame this on the coach!
