Win Over Ravens Clinches Division; Two Seed

There has been a lot of debate about what could happen Sunday should the Steelers win, or lose for that matter. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette today clears up the matter of what happens if the Steelers beat the Ravens:

A victory against the Ravens would clinch at least the No. 2 seed in the conference. They would have a bye into the second round of the playoffs, and if they would win that playoff game at home, they would move into the AFC championship.

The Steelers have not had the 1 or 2 seed in the AFC since they went 15-1 back in the 2004 season, and as the one seed that year they beat the Jets in OT, then lost to the Pats in the AFC Title Game. They have not been the two seed since 1995, when they beat the Bills in the Divisional title Game, the one seed that year, the Chiefs, lost to the Colts, then the Steelers beat the Colts to go on to Super Bowl XXX.
