Sweed’s season likley over

The bad luck for Limas Sweed is all but official, as Ed Bouchette reports that the former 2nd round wide outs season is over after he suffered a torn Achilles:

Steelers wide receiver Limas Sweed’s Achilles injury will likely will cost him the 2010 season. He had surgery last week to repair a torn Achilles tendon, an injury that occurred during the Steelers’ final minicamp practice. Sweed was selected 53rd overall by the Steelers the in the 2008 NFL Draft and play his college ball for the University of Texas.

A shame, but it isnt like he has given the team production since he was drafted. I mean, he will not be missed, thats apparent. It will give Battle a chance to amke an impact, it also forces the Steelers to look at the undrafted players and free-agents available in order to deepen the WR pool. I am actually comfortable with the players that are their already, but it couldnt hurt to see whats out there. If the team really is going to have an emphasis on the run, then having 2 TE is a plus and that the STeelers do have. Besides that, Ward,Randle-El,Wallace and Battle should be plenty to move the chains and get in the endzone. I still say that the starters will be Ward and El and Wallace will have the same role as last year. At least at the start of the season. This is not a knock on Wallace, it is just that he is young and made his hay running past nickel and dime backs. Not big CB looking to bump him off the line. Experience against that type of situation might make Wallace a bit of an achilies heel, at least early in the season. Wallace sure has the speed and talent to make my assessment off base and I hope he proves me wrong!!

its not his contribution that will be missed man.. the reason everyone is bummed is because his over all potential was through the roof… i highly doubt we will see him in the 2011 season unless tomlin and the rooneys can really give him another chance.. if we do it would be great because hes a big physical receiver and even though he dropped a few, he can actually take the top off a defense… best wishes to my boy limas. steeler nations got your back

arnez battle will also likely still just run special teams with stefan logan.. my question is when they will decide to use stefan logan in a different way.. i would like to see him as an all purpose back but everyone keeps saying he will end up at the bottom of the receiver list if hes promoted from special teams

With Limas, it’s like this. You can’t miss what we never had. Get well soon Limas! I’m not kidding.
