RB Isaac Redman Earning Praise From Tomlin

CBS Sports says that Isaac Redman is looking better now in his second-year:

Mike Tomlin says second-year RB Isaac Redman has been looking better. “He has a low center of gravity, doesn’t fumble, and has nice leg drive,” Tomlin said. “His patience and vision have also improved. He’s looking good.”

The Steelers are looking to build running back depth behind Rashard Mendenhall. Mewelde Moore seems to have locked up a role as a third-down back, and that leaves Redman competing with rookie Jonathan Dwyer for backup touches. Dwyer has the better long-term outlook, but Redman might be far more advanced as a goal-line back.

I think Redman may make the team this year. Improved running and blitz pickup skills are nice, but the fact that he has been working with the special teams some will help his chances a lot. Did anyone notice that in 1 of the goaline drills he lined up as a fullback and ran the ball from fullback?
It may be interesting to see where he contributes this next year, but I can think of a couple places that he could make it on the field (at least part time):
    1. Special Teams
    2. Short Yardage RB
    3. Spell Mendenhall and Moore
    4. Some Fullback in the open field (they like using Legursky as a FB down by the goaline)

I dont know why they dont keep Redman as the FB.I mean all of our ”FB” arent real FB but RB that we convert to FB and yet none of them are as good as Redman in picking up blitzes. They say that Summers is a tough runner why arent we moving Summers to RB and Redman to FB,then let’s say we keep Mendenhall,Moore,Dwyer at RB,Redman at FB and put Summers on PS

Heard this same “Praise” last season and even when the running game was sputtering, Redman was no-where to be found. Im not buying the “Praise” until I see the kid dressed on game day. Im not saying he doesnt have the goods, just wondering why he never dressed after last years pre-season? Maybe he gets the carries this month and with Dwyer supposedly struggling, he dresses and Dwyer makes the practice squad?

It’s just a rumor, but I heard the reason they didn’t put him on the active roster last year was they saw him as only a goal line back and didn’t want to devote a roster spot to a player that only played in only one situation. Last year he didn’t work with the special teams at all and his blitz pick up skills were bad so if he was in then opponents would know we were going to run.
I think he has improved in both areas this off-season, so we will have to wait and see.
