Harrison hit with another fine – $25,000 for hit on Fitzpatrick

Here we go again.

Steelers LB James Harrison has been fined $25,000 for roughing the passer, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Harrison made “helmet contact” to the chest of Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was in a defenseless position at the time the contact was made.

Harrison, a three-time pro bowler, has already been fined multiple times by the NFL this season for hits he has delivered.

On Monday, Harrison lost two appeals for fines the league levied on hits delivered to Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi ($75,000) and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees ($20,000).

On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. How does Harrison get fined 25k for this hit on Fitzpatrick. The replay shows him driving low into the body and only the very top of the helmet made contact.

The commissioner is so inconsistent with his punishments. How does Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan only get 25k each. The helmets were thrown off and punches were being thrown. I gaurentee if Harrison started throwing punches he would be gone for the season.

It is way beyond obvious that GODell is way more transparent and shallow than Paris Hilton (and maybe even ThomASS crowley)…To think that what he did and what Andre Johnson did are worth the same is laughable. GODell is turning the league into a laughing stock and the funny thing is he thinks he’s doing a good job!!! He thinks us fans see this and say, “Why yes, your highness, that was a well thought and well played decision on your part…so well indeed and thank the gods of the gridiron that you have come to us to save integrity and vanquish all that is insidious and deceitful!” Really Rog, I mean really? I don’t know, man, I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin, I would not wanna be him right now with all these angry fans. He is straight up doing a smack ass job (MATT LOEDE, PLEASE GET THIS TO HIM!) in fact, we’re not really supposed to notice the job a commissioner does….the less we notice and the more behind the scenes he is, the better job (usually) gets done. This is so absurd, I have to seriously reconcile, literally every week, my love for the game, just to sit down and watch on Sunday. When my child is born, I will make sure to warn him (or her) of the neo-insidiousness of the NFL, makes sure inform the child of how bad a human being Roger Gooddell is because that’s what he is, a bad human being when you start playing with people’s livelihoods and their paychecks. I am definitely not purchasing any more NFL mechandise or going to any more NFL games until he is NOT the commissioner and I am even thinking about getting rid of my Directv subscription… How one person can fuck up something so good really speaks LOUD FUCKING VOLUMES about that person’s character and intent! Goodell, go fuck yourself!

Don’t let up # 92 James Harrison, keep bringing it. The Steelers organization has your back ($) I’m sure. One thing on this hit that was unlike most was that he wasn’t being held on the edge, he had a free run at the QB. That explosive free run had the referee convinced it was going to be roughing but it was all text book tackling.

If they’re going to impact games by making calls they perceive to be now illegal (Bills score what 2-3 plays later after being given the 1st down?) they’re going to have to bring in instant replay. This way at least when they overreact they can correct it. They’re going to really screw some team in a playoff game with this type of misinterpretation.

Do we have a Ravens fan on this board? That would be lame

He’s a great player, but he doesn’t need to spear people to be a great player.

That’s the point. I am a rugby player. In an average rugby game, I get my head smacked 10 times or more. The difference is, rugby players tackle the way you are supposed to tackle, at the hips, the thighs, or the knees, wrapping the player.

NFL players lead with their heads. They spear. One of the hits that has a high risk for concussions among athletes is one at the base of the chin (That exact hit that was made on Fitz). Why do you think they make “shock doctor” mouth guards. Or better yet, why else do they make mouth guards for football players… it isn’t for the teeth…

You’ve got this woman at BU doing research on NFL players and finding that the majority of them have serious brain problems when they get older, and its not 51%. It’s a lot more than that(don’t have the numbers with me, and just so that I don’t give some idiot ammunition, I will leave it).

Goodell is making a point. And how stupid can James Harrison be coming out and saying “I am out there to hurt people.” Put 2 and 2 together and know you will be a target immediately after saying it. I know he drew a distinction between hurt and injured immediately afterward… too late James. Goodell is looking at you.

We are taught from lil league to put a man on his ass as hard as we can to take him out of the game. So it is a mind set that we have been learning for a LONG TIME. James Harrison did nothing wrong but his JOB. Screw Goodell and FUCK RUGBY!

In the NFL it is considered to be “dirty” when a player tackles the knees, so your argument is a bit invalid. A player wants to make sure they make the tackle, so the spear is the most effective.

Any Steelers fans talking about Tomlin whining to the media about the fine? He said it could take away Harrison’s college funds for his kids? HAHAHAHA. What a joke!

Tomlin also was asked if it’s fair that the league keeps singling out Harrison for large fines.

“Man, life isn’t fair,” Tomlin said. “I’m not concerned about fairness. I’m really not. I’m concerned about preparing for the Baltimore Ravens” on Sunday.

I wouldn’t give a second of my time to consider posting on a Raven’s website. What have the Raven’s really done in their history to have such arrogant fans. They act like the Tapetriot fans I have to deal with up here in Massachusetts!

Tony – you must be a Penguins fan too along with the Steelers? I am a Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox fan ( I wanna support and do like the Pirates but man they are a joke. Still want to go to PNC park though)
Got hooked on the Steelers as a kid because my uncle/godfather’s family lived in Pittsburgh for many years. He used to send me Steelers and Pirates stuff every birthday and Xmas. I still have a 70’s terrible towel he sent that is more orange color than the yellow they use now.

Pointing out facts doesn’t entail laughing about it you smug little douche bag! You’re like one of those villains on those CSI and criminal minds shows that my wife makes me watch from time to time…treated poorly by mommy and/or daddy and/or the neighborhood kids and now is out to seek revenge on everyone else…Maybe as you were being ass raped by uncle Phineas you saw a big black bird fly overhead and that’s how you chose your life of crime and asinine behaviors.
