Polamalu Fined $10,000 for Using a Cellphone Sunday

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was fined $10,000 for using a cellphone in the bench during the Steelers’ 17-13 win over the Jaguars.

Polamalu had borrowed the phone to let his wife know that he was okay after leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion.

According to NFL rules, “possession of cell phones, PDAs or other electronic equipment in the bench are during a game is strictly prohibited by league policy beginning 90 minutes before kickoff through the end of the game.”

Polamalu was fined $15,000 after Week 1 for a horse-collar tackle on Baltimore Ravens running back Ricky Williams.

In the old days, we only needed a doctor on the sidelines in case of injury. In this era of burgeoning NFL rules, we now need a team lawyer on the sidelines too, to keep the players from committing a violation, unintentionally, of the ever expanding NFL rulebook. A player whoozey from a near concussion is not likely to remember Art.37.1(a) sub.(27-1)on phone use during a game, when all he’s trying to do is reassure his wife. A $10,000 fine is way out of line here. His Excellency in NFL HQ needs to climb off his throne and exercise a little better judgment. In fact, a real lawyer, like Paul Tagliabue, would never have made this call. Get real, Mr. Goodell.

Like I have been saying for 2 years now, GOD-dell is a complete egomaniac and believes he is almighty. His targeting of Steelers is so apparent! Hawk gets a fine of 10k for an infraction that sure seemed against the NFL policy of conduct. Troy gets the same financial fine for calling his wife to tell her he is o.k after a potential head injury. Did I miss something? Is that really like offsetting penalties? The NFL is turning into a joke. The Dr. pointed out above that this is an era of bloated and burgeoning rules all in place to stymie faster and bigger athletes who have been coached a certain way for years. But to fine a player of such upstanding quality like Polamalu for such a small “infraction” just screams of targeting!
