Steelers DL Aaron Smith out for season

Steelers veteran defensive end Aaron Smith has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced on Saturday.

Smith has missed the last two weeks, and was ruled out for Sunday’s game clash the Cardinals, with a foot injury.

The 35-year-old Smith has struggled with injuries the last three seasons, with shoulder, triceps and this year’s foot injury limited him to just 15 games.

Rookie defensive lineman Corbin Bryant has been signed off the practice squad to take Smith’s place on the 53-man roster.

Time to move on. Thank you Aaron Smith for being a true Steeler great and for anchoring a great defense over the years.

Right on, Mark! Aaron Smith was an ideal Steelers athlete: tough, tenacious, smart, and loyal. He put the good of the team ahead of his own ego, and made everyone around him better. Pro football is a physically demanding and sometimes cruel sport. Injuries are common, and no one can escape the relentless advance of time.

This apparently marks the end of your career, Aaron. If so, the entire Steelers Nation salutes you. May your future be as bright as your years with the Steelers. You will be missed!

What a great career he had. Probably one of the most underrated 3-4 defensive ends in the game.
