Conflicting Reports On DeCastro; Most Say Did NOT Tear ACL

The news on David DeCastro could have been a lot worse, but many Steeler fans will agree, it’s bad enough.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers first round pick did NOT tear his ACL as was feared, but that the injury he suffered on a poor turf in Buffalo is still pretty significant.

The list of injuries the rookie guard did suffer:

Torn MCL
Dislocated knee cap
Damage to his patella tendon (knee cap)

The early hope is that he’s a fast healer, and that he will miss just a couple regular season games. The injuries he did suffer usually do not require surgery.

Of course NFL.com is reporting the worst, that being that DeCastro did tear his ACL and MCL, and that he is out for the season.

I sure hope these reports are wrong, and he did not tear his ACL and MCL. That would be a bad way for his rookie year to end.

Being taken off the field on a cart is never a good thing though, so if they went to that degree, it can’t be all that good.

Let’s hope its just a torn MCL, dislocated knee cap, and damage to his patella tendon (knee cap).

What’s with Gilbert this is the second guy he’s rolled up on them. The other team isn’t injuring our guy’s it’s our own.

This is another reason why the NFL needs to reduce the number of preseason games . Four games serve no purpose except to get a quality player hurt . Its truly a shame for David Decastro who was quickly proving to be everything the Steelers thought he was when they drafted him in the 1st round of the draft . At the end of the day , the games mean nothing and most fans could care less about the games . If the league wants to put a better product on the field , then reduce the preseason down to two games . If the colleges can do it with no problem then why cant the NFL ?

Patellar tendon is NOT the knee cap. It is a tendon starts at the quads goes over the knee cap (patella) and inserts onto the tibia (shin bone). It’s the tendon that you tap and you leg automatically responds by kicking up a bit – patellar reflex.

Sometimes MRIs are wrong when it comes to the knee (shoulder too). You can have a false positive (MRI shows a tear but the surgeon finds none) or a false negative (opposite).

What is a given is that DeCastro will have arthroscopic surgery. Only then will we know with 100% certainty the extent of DeCastro’s injuries and whether or not his season is over.

Four preseason games ARE required and should not be changed. Only with four games can lower round draft picks and UFAs be properly evaluated. Without those, guys like James Harrison, Ike Redman, Willie Parker, Antonio Brown, Chris Carter may not now nor ever have been on the Steelers roster. This just comes down to better execution by the line, That’s what this team really needs. Remember, these games don’t count but they do matter.

I just read on Behind the Steel Curtain that the Steelers might “kick the tires” on a free agent (OLine)!? LMFAO —–hahahhahaha! We don’t participate in free agency! At least not with “big names!”. Okay Ryan Clark panned out but spare me please. If you really want to show your fans you want to compete for this year, go and make a big trade or something—-yeah , in all likelihood decastro comes back next year but by then what good will an elite o lineman be when bb is hammered into oblivion this year. Decastro will be back and healthy blocking for and protecting a scrub! Go and make a move this year steelers! Ya got two weeks!

No Thomas, no where in my rant do I even infer that! You reaching! The point of my blog revolves primarily around me being sick and tired of seeing bb get hammered year in and year out and how the organization might, for once, go and make a splash move to bring someone in to protect bb (I.e., mjd, a stud O lineman, etc) even if it is a the expense of high draft pick(s). As far as the towel, the only one I’m throwing is the terrible one! Here we go Pittsburgh here we go!
