The Expierenced Coaches Will Battle

Coaches Mike Tomlin and Lovie Smith will try to out coach each other to victory this Sunday. Both Head coaches have reached the superbowl and have developed pro bowl players. This sunday will became interesting.

Tomlin on paper and on the field looks to have the better team. But from week to week things change. Smith has always been known for having at the very least a good defense. Smith will be running a 4-3 defense led by defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. It will be interesting to see how many pass plays Smith will allow with shaky quarterback play and a struggling offense line. Tomlin clearly will be looking to pound the ball and look to get players like Markus Wheaton,Justin Brown,Health Miller, and Dri Archer more scrubbing the offense.

Tomlin and Smith both being former defensive coordinators will look to disrupt both quarterbacks and versatile running backs Le’Von Bell and Doug Martin. Last week Tomlin did a excellent job motivating his players to play well on the road. Tomlin we be looking to do the same at home. Smith and his team are trying desperately to win a game. That makes for a dangerous team. Tomlin coaching strategy will not be a soft vs a hard nose coach such as Smith.

The Steelers are heavily favored in this game and should be. The Bucs’ offense is struggling to rise to mediocrity. Our offense can put up points fast, now that Ben has accepted the wisdom of getting rid of the ball quickly in fast break football. Therefore, this game shapes up as our defense, which lost three starters last week, against their inept offense. Moates and Spence played well last week in place of Shazier and Jones; but our CBs are below average. Look for LeBeau to use the nickel or dime more than before, to get an extra safety or corner on the field for pass coverage. He has two relatively weak offenses (Bucs and Jags) against which to refine his new scheme and experiment with new combinations before facing the Browns, Texans, Colts and Ravens. The joker in the deck is injuries. Even with Harrison under contract, we remain very thin at key positions on defense. There will be more than the final score to generate suspense in this one.
