Steelers Host Two Potential Future Quarterbacks; Joshua Dobbs and Patrick Mahomes

It’s sounding like the scare that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sent the team at the start of this offseason with stating he’s not sure about playing in 2017 has sent the team thinking long and hard about their future at the quarterback spot.

NFL.com reports that the team is taking a long hard look at a pair of prospects in the 2017 NFL Draft that both play quarterbacks, and like playing thrilling online casino games, could give the team hope into the future should the team take one and he eventually replaces Big Ben at some point in the future.

The two players that spoke to the team Monday were Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs and Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes.

Many feel that Mahomes is a player that won’t last past the first round, and NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks has said Dobbs could be this year’s Dak Prescott as a potential middle-round QB who could exceed expectations in the NFL.

The draft position for the 22-year-old Dobbs are all over the place. He potentially sneak into the second round, although somewhere between the third and sixth seems more likely.

As a senior, Dobbs guided Tennessee to a 9-4 record and led the team in rushing.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin attended Tennessee’s pro day last week and his offensive coordinator, Todd Haley, was present for Texas Tech’s pro day, and while there’s other players that they may have been looking at, these two quarterbacks should get a lot of consideration by the Steelers should they be around at the end of round one when the Steelers draft.

No matter how you cut it, the team isn’t going to sit on Big Ben’s words lightly, which is why it’s a very good idea for them to continue to be active in looking at the future, and that may just be one of these quarterbacks come draft day.
