Steelers Already Planning on Talking to CB McFadden?

With the large amount of possible unrestricted free agents coming up on February 27th (12) for the Steelers, one player that the team is reportedly already looking at bringing back is CB Bryant McFadden. Here is a report on that from Sports Illustrated:

According to Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks, the Steelers have already decided on their top free agent priority and plan to try to re-up starting cornerback Bryant McFadden before free agency begins on Feb. 27. With $19 million in cap room, Pittsburgh has some room to get McFadden under contract while also either re-upping Max Starks or trying to bring in free agent offensive line help. If McFadden was allowed to leave in free agency, the Steelers’ best in-house option would be William Gay, who was surprisingly solid as a nickel back this year.

I liked Gay, but Mcfadden might be their best cover corner. Taylor has been much improved, but Mcfadden was a better corner as a rookie than Taylor was until this past season. I think bringing him back gives the Steelers an absolute solution to the secondary. 2 guys that just won a Super Bowl and just peaking. If given the choice, I would rather see Mcfadden get signed than Foote get an extension.

I think that McFadden is a guy that makes plays…he did it vs the Jags in 05, and if it’s between Foote and McFadden, give it to McFadden.

Why would we not want to keep McFadden? Gay may be able to come in and play corner on every down, but we need to think long term no matter what. Foote is good, but Timmons is very capable of filling that position someday. We also have to remember that Deshea who has been a Steeler forever, is getting a little older… Gay is just the guy to take Townsend’s spot in the event that Deshea gets injured or retires. McFadden is one of my top three “keepers” going into the FA this offseason.

Uhh, is there even a question of Foote vs. McFadden? Timmons has a chance to be a really special player. Give McFadden the long contract and let Foote walk.

Have no a lot of cash to buy a building? Don’t worry, just because it’s possible to receive the mortgage loans to work out all the problems. Thus get a short term loan to buy all you need.
