Now let’s not get too excited, but we all know that since the team won their sixth Super Bowl, the Steelers have been looking to get LB James Harrison signed to a new deal. Despite the fact that it has taken awhile, reports are starting to come out that the LB and team may be close to getting a deal done.
The report of a deal getting done comes from Bob Pompeani of KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. His report states:
KDKA-TV’s Bob Pompeani has learned the Steelers and All-Pro Linebacker James Harrison are very close to a new contract. Harrison’s agent Bill Parise tells KDKA-TV Sports a deal could be completed as soon as the beginning of next week.
There’s still no word on the exact length of a potential new contract for Harrison, but the total dollar value is believed to be around $45 million. A portion of that total would be guaranteed money.
Harrison is the 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and his play at the Super Bowl of a pickoff return of 100 yards for a score on the last play of the half is still one of the most unreal plays of the season. There is no doubt that the team would not have been the leagues #1 defense if it were not for Harrison.
The team is ready to reward him for that, and it looks like a deal will be done soon if you believe Pompeani and KDKA.
