Who Is The Steelers MVP This Season?

With one game left in the regular season, there’s a couple players that could boast about being the Steelers MVP this season, but realistically, there’s probably only two players that could argue they deserve the honor this season.

Let’s take a look at the few players who could get the honor and what they have done to deserve it.

1. Antonio Brown – Following Sunday’s win over the Packers, Brown has reached an all-time franchise high of 1412 yards to go along with 101 catches. He’s also been solid on punt returns, and has hauled in 8 touchdowns. If anyone was nervous about the teams decision to keep Brown and let Mike Wallace walk, they are not anymore after the year Brown has had.

2. Ben Roethlisberger – After a tough start with the rest of his team, ‘Big Ben’ has been very good the last half of the season, and more so the last five or so games, being careful with the ball in terms of turnovers. He’s been a leader at the line of scrimmage, and after the ‘rumor’ that he was upset to the point of wanting to be moved this offseason, all he’s done is lead the team to a 5-2 mark and has thrown 27 TD’s with 12 picks in 2013.

3. Lawrence Timmons
– In a year where the defense has given up way too many big plays, Timmons has been the teams best defensive player, leading the team in tackles with 118 tackles, 80 of which have been solo. With losing Larry Foote in week one, Timmons’ play hasn’t fallen off one bit, and most Sunday’s you can see his name right at the top of the stat sheet for defense.

4. Troy Polamalu – He’s lost a step from when he was the defensive player of the year in 2010, but don’t test Polamalu, as he can still make plays and get big turnovers, like Sunday when he stripped Matt Flynn of the Packers to set up the winning score in the 38-31 victory. Polamalu is going to have a tough decision to make as the team is going to have to have him take a large pay cut this offseason to stick around, but if he does stay, he can be a great mentor to a young player coming in.

5. Le’Veon Bell
– The rookie back has shown why the Steelers looked at him as the workhorse back of the future, as Sunday against the Packers he ran for 124 yards, his first 100+ yard game of his career. He’s shown how tough he can be after contact, and also has been good catching passes out of the backfield. Bell on the year has run for 770 yards with 7 touchdowns.

Matt Loede has been in the sports media for over 16 years, with experience covering the MLB, NBA, and NFL. On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Matt studies and talks football inside and out, and is anxious to share his thoughts and comments with readers on a daily basis.

It’s a toss up for me between Ben and Brown… They seem to have great chemistry together and if I’m remembering correct, Brown was pretty much Wards replacement? Wow, what a find 🙂

A.B. because he’s been the most consistent.

Brown wins this hands down – week in, week out he’s top of the stat sheet. Timmons similarly, but Brown is a game-changer. If his foot hadn’t grazed the touchline against the Dolphins…….

Bell has been a pleasant surprise and I see him really breaking through next year – provided we can get some stability on the O-Line.
Ben has been Ben, he needs to play a bit smarter in the next couple of seasons or one of the hits he was taking in the early part of the season is going to end his career.

Ben and AB by far and away the 2 best performers this year. but can we get some love for Cam Heyward? the guy has played big since pushing ziggy to the bench.

Timmons has been amazing this year. Bell is a workhorse. But every game I see Timmons coming up with incredible plays. Brown also amazing this year. It is nice to see an offense which is utilizing a few receivers not 10 a game like they were last year.
