Cornerbacks: Five Steelers Prospects for 2015

Trae Waynes Cornerback Michigan State

Trae Waynes: Michigan State, #15
Height: 6-1. Weight: 182
Projected 40 Time: 4.43
Projected Round (2014): 1-2

In 2014, Waynes broke up seven passes, logged three interceptions and 4o tackles.  A reliable cornerback in coverage, Waynes has strength as a press-man who is physical and quick.  Against Penn State, Waynes grabbed an interception, had four tackles and broke up a pass.  Versus Michigan, Waynes recorded five tackles and a single pass broken up.  Good in tight coverage, Waynes isn’t afraid to challenge receivers.  He has the speed and agility to keep up with receivers downfield and defend deep passes.  Playing opposite Darqueze Dennard his sophomore season (2013), Waynes was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick by coaches and media after totaling t0 tackles, five deflections and three interceptions.  Waynes’ ability to shadow receivers gives him an edge and with great field awareness and tackling, he has proven to be the type of corner that would fit well in a modern-day NFL with quarterbacks that like to throw long.  He is a hard-hitter in open field tackles.

We have needed a CB for a few season. I hope this season we will opt to draft one.
